Haggai 1:1–6

Apr 12, 2026    Paul Laso

In Haggai 1:1–6, God confronts His people through the prophet Haggai, exposing how they have delayed rebuilding His house while prioritizing their own comfort. Though they claim “it is not time,” their completed homes reveal misplaced priorities and spiritual indifference. God calls them to “consider their ways,” urging thoughtful self-examination in light of their lived experience. Their dissatisfaction - sowing much but reaping little, earning but never having enough - is not accidental but a reflection of God’s discipline in response to their neglect. The passage reveals that a life centered on self rather than God leads not to fulfillment, but to frustration. -Summary from Moyter, Boda, and Duguid
